Besam Assa Abloy Automatic Door Operators and Parts

Developing Automatic Door Operators Since 1962

Besam is a division of the parent company Assa Abloy. Assa Abloy is known as the largest world wide manufacturer of door hardware. Besam began in 1962 manufacturing automatic door operators for the healthcare industry. In the 1960's automatic doors became more and more popular with competitor brands such as Stanley, Horton, and Gyro Tech. Although these competitor companies were largely in the retail and grocery store market, Besam dominated in the healthcare niche with automatic door operators in hospitals all across the USA. By the 1970's Besam's business increased and led to the new development of their automatic sliding door system. As time progressed Besam moved their automatic doors across multiple industries such as the retail and grocery market, industrial markets, and more. Some of their most notable automatic sliding door systems include the 3000 A and B Series in the late 70's. In the early 1980's they introduced the Besam Power Glide 4000 C Series, one of their most popular door systems. In the late 1980's Besam developed the AMD Power Glide Series automatic sliding door system. At the time this system was very advanced and could only be programmed or adjusted using a programming remote unique to Besam authorized technicians. Following the Besam AMD Series was the Unislide automatic sliding door which featured a small dc motor and an advanced microprocessor control unit. Today, their latest generation of automatic sliding doors is the SL500 series, and utilizes improvements in engineering from all of the predecessor besam automatic door models. By 2002, Besam was acquired by Assa Abloy, strengthening their overall market share world wide.

Common Besam Automatic Door Repairs To Look For

Automatic Doors Open and Close Very Bumpy

If you notice that your Besam automatic doors open and close very roughly. As the doors open or close you notice they slide open very bumpy, bumping up and down as they close. Almost as if the doors rolling over something causing the bumps. The Besam Power Glide 4000 C Series, AMD Series, and Unislide each used a removable top track made of nylon/plastic. The steel rollers roll over the top track. Over time, the top track wears out, creating bumps in the track. The track itself is easy to replace. At ADA Door Operators we sell replacement top track per foot. It is important to check which model of top track you have as they vary depending on your door model. If you cannot determine which type you have email customer service a picture and we can identify. It is always recommended to replace the top steel rollers as well. If you only replace the top track without replacing the worn rollers, your new top track will wear out extremely fast.

Automatic Doors Won't Close

If you notice your Besam automatic sliding doors will not shut, analyze each motion sensor. Most likely one of your automatic door sensors is detecting something and keeping the door open. If the motion sensor has a red light illuminated, it indicates that it is being triggered. If the sensor led is green, it indicates that it is not detecting. Most automatic door sensors can be adjusted, however depending on the age of your door, it may be a sign to replace your sensor. ADA Door Operators stocks all automatic door sensors for Besam automatic door systems.
